Anger with adhd | ADHD Information

If you are noticing negative changes/side effects since adding a new medication, then stop the med ASAP and call the doctor.

He honestly may feel the way he is saying. It may NOT be med related BUT since you have noticed it since starting intuviv, I wonder about that.

I wouldn't give it to him until you talk to the doctor and it is the holiday weekend.

Did you ever try Guanfacine/tenex - same thing? We swear by it. My son is turning 13 next month and when he started concerta, his pyschopharm started guanfacine for him as well. They go hand in hand for our son.

Please let us know how things go for you all!!

Hi all,
My son who is nine has been newly diagnosed with ADHD this last year...we suspected something for a while but got the official diagnosis just recently.  He was put on Intuniv and has been on it since April.  That was huge for me because my oldest also was diagnosed with ADHD and never really needed meds..he kind of improved with his problem behaviors around 4th grade.
I noticed that my 9yr old seems to have more anger since being on the Intuniv.  When I mentioned it to the Ped he said that's probably not from the medicine and referred me to a psych for counselling.  I feel like I'm a bad mom because I do everything to reassure my son that we love him.  Lately he hates his 4yr old sister, he resents any time we do anything for her.  Her BD is tomorrow and I'm dreading it because he'll get mad and say we only love her cause we are buying her a gift which we did for him also.  Just lately he's been cutting her shoes and toys to destroy them.  I just bought her a new pair of sandals and came home yesterday to find one missing...and he does not say where it is.  He says we just care about her and that she's broken his stuff too...he tends to story tell and really exaggerate stuff.  I'm at a loss.  I'm going to call to get him into a psych after the holiday to see if this will help.  Is this normal for ADHD? Sometimes he gets so angry it scares me..and then he will go to his room and destroy stuff.
Any suggestions?? Thanks!!
Yes this behavior can be normal for ADHD but I wonder if the Inutniv is causing it??? Regardless of what your doc said, I've heard several people on this board say that Intuniv or Tenex (short acting Intuniv) has caused their child to be emotional or angry so it may be the medication.  Did this behavior start only after starting the Intuniv? or has it been there all along?  I would definitely go to the psychiatrist.  It's my personal opinion that a good psych will help you sooooo much faster because they're generally more experienced with these meds.  They usually understand the side effects better and how to avoid them.  Good luck!
