Hi!
My husband and I are parents of two children - our fourteen-year-old son has been diagnosed with ADHD for eight years. We have always suspected my husband of also having ADD. His two siblings relate many stories from his childhood which validate this. He is not in favor of medication (although our son does take medication), and talking him into that is a losing battle.
Here is my primary question. My husband will be talking - either to people in our immediate family or guests and relate a story or event that has happened to him. Occasionally, it could be just minutes later, and he will tell the exact same story!!! It's embarassing and worrisome.
There have been questions and concerns about alcohol use in the past - I believe he has used it to attempt to self-medicate. But I don't believe that every time this has happened he has been drinking.
Has anyone else seen/experienced this type of behavior? It also makes me consider other neurological conditions. Obviously, I want someone to say, "Oh that happens to me all the time." But, I really want you to be straight with me!
Thanks
Mary
Sounds like my father! age??? could just be senility creeping in :) if he has ADD then im sure you know all about socially embarrasing situations! Short term memory is often a big issue, I frequently am in a situation with my partner where she will refer to a conversation we are supposed to have had that I have absolutley no recollection of, and it may well have been a not insignificant topic. Just pick him up on it, tell him that he is doing it in a light hearted way and he may well become more aware of it.
