Colorado ?? restrictions on meds? | ADHD Information

Share
I just got an email from CHADD that the state of Colorado's Colorado Medicaid Pharmacy and
Therapeutics Committee, at their next meeting on 7/13, is going to be reviewing (among MANY
other things) several drug classes, including "Stimulants and ADHD Treatments". Additionally, the
online agenda (did find it, but it is very sparse), further says that "Each Review will contain: (1) Drug
Class Overview and Agents up for review for each Drug Class; (2) Oral presentation by
manufacturers, providers and public following overview, and (3) Committee Discussion and
Recommendations for each Class"

CHADD has taken the view that this means the committee will possibly be considering onerous
additional requirements or rules for the prescribing of medicines (at least Adderall, Vyvanse, etc.)
used for ADD, perhaps making per-authorization necessary, or (I infer from CHADD's letter)
allowing insurance companies to remove some of the meds from their formularies.

I don't know if the assumption that such a review leads to these kinds of restrictions is warranted
or not, or if CHADD is just taking the extreme view to head them off at the pass. But I imagine
CHADD has more experience monitoring states' similar committees than I do, and that that it is
possible.

(1) Has anyone else heard of this? Especially anyone else in Colorado?
(2) Have other states put restrictions on or states allow insurance companies to restrict formularies?
(3) Any good helpful arguments for why this is bad -- CHADD is asking folks to write in, and I
could just write what they wrote but would like just more ideas of how and what to write. If I do
write I don't want to sound hysterical about the issue but I definitely want to sound informed and
be persuasive.

Thanks,
