Hi my name is Clayton i am new to the forum and would like some advise, i recently found out my 6 year old daughter was put on meds for ADHD and i have look into them and have some grave concerns the 2 meds she has been on are Dexedrine and Biphentin, i would like to add our family history is abundant with substance abuse on both sides, suicides and depression on both sides and genetic heart failure in the female side of my family  i do not believe the doctor was made aware of this nor do i understand why she was put on this as i have talked to my daughters principal and she tell's me the only issues she has in a minor attention issue. i can tell you her diet is filled with junk food and prossed foods with red dyes i offered advise into trying fatty fish oils omega's kelp melatonin nutrient changes and discipline witch there is none of i have read there is no long term studies done on MPH treatments as well as no studies of the affects on a developing brain but i do not belive she should have gone the meds root with at least talking to me. any advice would be most helpful

thank you

Mrclay40349.6614236111Hi, welcome. This really sounds like a communication issue between you and your daughter's mom. There must have been some process by which your daughter was diagnosed with adhd in order for her to be prescribed meds. It's good that you're learning about adhd, and finding out how she was diagnosed is important. If you find that her diagnosis is valid, please know that you can't trust all the junk you read on the internet about the meds. Lots of people with personal agendas post crap just to scare people. I'm not saying that the idea of medicating your child with these strong meds isn't scary, 'cause it is. But with careful consideration and monitoring, meds can be liberating for a child hampered by adhd. My only advice is to try to get with your daughter's mom and find out what's going on, who diagnosed her, and what the plan of action is.
