My 4 yr old is a cardiac baby. She was put on the Focalin XR we have not gave it to her yet. She was only give 5 mg. Is there any other Heart parents out there that have kids on this medication?

Im scared to give it to her. She was cleared by her cardio doc

What do you mean cardiac baby? Does your child have a heart condition already?

My daughter was diagnosed with long qt interval while on Vyvance. It caused the irregular long qt interval. I'm waiting word now if she can take stimulate medicines. I am very hesitate to continue on. MY dd doctor is checking with her cardiologist also but even if he clears it, how can I?   I've read in some cases they can add a Beta Blocker but that is another medicine with another list of side effects.

I would scared just like you... My dd is 9

Yes, I've got a cardiac kid. I mean, in the hospital for the first 30 days, open heart surgery, generally messed up heart cardiac baby. The first med was guanfacine, then Strattera, then Focalin. The first two are not stimulants. Focalin has the least side effects within the stimulant family; that's why he is recommending it. I also stalled. But I stalled until age seven, with the school staff pressuring me like they had nothing else going on. Basically I refused until there was academic impact. The cardiologist cleared Focalin. Why do you feel that he needs medication now? He does not need to focus. He's too young for Strattera, but he can try guanfacine. That will slow him down, reducing hyperactivity and impulseness. It is also called Tenex, and Intuiv or something like that. All the same thing.Jessica N40375.8166782407
