It makes me wonder if they suffer from a silent anxiety.
Now with school out, they are relaxed and feel safe.
That's exactly how Matt behaves, too. Literally the FIRST day of summer vacation (back in June) was a total nightmare.....fighting, arguing, screaming with the neighbor kids etc. That night I told my husband that I wasn't going to make it through this summer, but then after about a week he mellowed out so much. I'm so spoiled with how nice our homelife has been this past month. It's so clear how much anxiety he really has over school.
Kathleen, I'm worrie about the meds, too. He's been wonderful without the Focalin but we'll just cross that bridge when we get there!!

Matt age 8
Now that we have been out of school, things have been easier around theIt's funny that I read your post tonight, because that's exactly what I've been thinking! We took our son off meds 10 days before kindergarten ended because of anxiety and continued decrease in appetite. Those 10 days were a disaster, but since summer things have been wonderful. He goes to day camp 4 days a wk and his counselors love him and his quirkiness, but of course they aren't under pressure of having to teach. He's eating so well now (no meds) and has gained 4 pounds since the end of May. He's sleeping straight through the night from around 9 PM to 8 AM because of all the physical activities. Days off, we go to the community pool where he has a blast. But.... now the decision we are going to have to make when he starts first grade will be all the more difficult. I don't like the medicine and I don't like to see him subdued. I am sick about the merry go round we will have to go on to find the right meds, but I am afraid in order for him to succeed in school, this is what we are going to have to do. Guess I shouldn't worry about that now and just enjoy the time we have left!
Summer is always so much better!
My ADHD son doesn't take meds except for school, so his natural self can shine through. He is very active on his bicycle and playing with his buddies. We all get along so much better when he can RUN!
