Hi, from what I read in your post, I'm wondering whether there is more to the behaviours than just adhd. I have heard starting fires at a young age can be an indication of something more serious. Presumably, as your son has tried various medications, he has seen a specialist. Is this specialist aware of the behaviours such as peeing in the closet and starting fires? I would look at seeing a phycologist, counsellor, behavioural specialist.
I wish you all the best.
My son chews holes in his shirts and is extremely emotional. It's due to aMy son was diagnosed with sensory integration when he was 2.
His elementary school can evaluate your son to see if it sensory or something else or a combination of several things going on.
There are all sorts of symptoms, and they change, as the person adjusts to their environment.
My son didn't feel pain, none what so ever. He needed deep pressure and heavy blankes, vests, etc. He also didn't like certain odors, brushing his teeth, hair washes, hair cuts.
School had provided services with an occupational therapist. They helped him with holding his pencil and writing, he had spacing difficulties when writing. He also had spacing issues
He would outgrow some of his sensory stuff but new ones do arrive. He just learns how to manage them.
Most adhd'ers are co-morbid. My son also has a speech delay.
He is now 13 and doing fine. Please ask any questions.
I will definitly look into the sensory thing. He is seeing a ADHD psychiatrist on the 17th I am just worried and do not want to have to put him into the hospital until they finally figure it out When was the last time he had a thorough evaluation? I agree that he needs to see a specialist to be sure you have the proper diagnoses. As the other posters said, he probably has comorbid problems. My son has ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder also. It's possible some of your son's problems are due to SPD. An Occupational Therapist is the one to assess that. It sounds like the key here is getting the right diagnosis. Best of luck!
Unless your son is a danger to himself and/or others, they do NOT have to put him in a hospital.
The evaluation process may take longer than a physical at the pediatrician, but they would never take your son and place him in the hospital.
Heck it is hard enough being aldmitted to a hospital when you are sick or even having a baby now a days. Insurance companies do not want to pay.
My son has never been admitted and he is 13. The doctors just need to take the time. He may have to go back several times, it all depends.
Please do NOT worry!
