Kathleen,
I am SO happy for you and your son! I am a firm believer in moms knowing their kids best. I also agree to fight for what your son needs. I'm glad to hear that he had such a successful summer both at camp and at home. Unfortunatley, we have had the complete opposite here........................worst---summer---ever! I am counting the days until school starts but also have a ton of anxiety that he will continue these obnoxious behaviors in school and we wil have to start all over again.
Best of luck to you and your son for a very successful year! Follow your heart and don't let anyone tell you what's best for your little guy!!

I haven't been on the boards much this summer, but thought I'd check back in. I'm happy to say we have had a TERRIFIC no medication summer! Day camp went better than I ever imagined it would.... we only got calls 2 days for bad behavior, the rest of the time he loved it and the counselors loved him. Now that first grade is starting on Wed. we have finally made the choice to not put him back on medicine. The school is not going to be happy about this decision, but I feel that our son can not only be controlled, but he can thrive and be happy with the right teacher and the right approach. Yes, it will take more effort than with the "typical" child, but it's the school's job (and his legal right) to give him the help he needs. For pre K and kindergarten I pretty much sat through the IEP meetings without expressing my thoughts even when I disagreed. No more of that! I am tired of the double standard when it comes to physical disabilities vs. behavioral disabilities. If he needs a one on one aide for redirection, then I am NOT going to stop fighting for one. He had one in pre K, and things were great, but in kindergarten the school budget could not allow one. I'd like to see that happen if a child with a physical disability needed assistance! So, wish me luck everybody because I think it's going to be an uphill struggle, but our little guy is worth it! Kathleen051540410.3389699074
