Hi, my almost 9 yr old son has been on dexamphetamines for approx 8 months now and about 2 months ago, we increased the dose. This week (out of the blue) my son has started these "tics".........severe blinking, rolling eyes upwards and odd facial expressions. I consider it to be regular but has only been for about last 3 days. I can't get hold off his specialist till Tuesday when he's back in the office so not sure if it's a side effect to the meds (and I should cease them) or he was going to get the tics anyway. I as a child (and into my teens) had tics. It's just awful to watch and I don't want to constantly tell him to stop doing it as I know he cant really help it and he probably feels bad about it anyway. Anyone else had this and any advice? Thanks all.
My son is also on this med, and I was told if he started to display tics that we should get him in right away. I just googled it to check, and it said if 'motor tics' are displayed to stop the meds and get in to dr. Sounds to me like you might need to at least drop the dose again until you can get in to his specialist. Good luck, hope this helps.
Willa
I agree with Willa from my experience with tics.
