short acting stimulant advice | ADHD Information

I have taken a bunch of ADD medication in the past and took a break for about half a year. I am in college and am thinking about taking a short acting medication just for when I am in class or have to do a lot of studying. I have taken vyvanse, straterra, welbutrion, aderall, concerta, ritalin and focalin in the past. I am willing to try these again because some did work well but I was wondering what are all the short acting stimulant medications that are available and any other information you know on them. thanks!
my husband and 3 of my 4 children are ADHD.  I always get my husband to try things out before I give it to the kids.  My husband and I both believe short acting Ritalin is the best, and is what my husband uses in exactly the way you are talking about.  For the kids unfortunately we need to use Concerta because I don't want them taking it at school, but I usually give ritalin on weekends and holidays. After lots of meds, my DS(12) is on short acting Ritalin.  This has worked so well that we decided that it was worth it for him to take a dose at school.  He is a rapid metabolizer, so most long acting meds don't work well for him.  Did you do better with medications in the methylphenidate family or the amphetamine family?  Ritalin, Focalin, Concerta, Metadate, and others are methylphenidates.  Adderall and Vyvanse are amphetamines.  I would suggest to the doctor that you try a short-acting medicine in the drug family that works best for you.I agree with Mom2ADHDboy.  My DS had bad side effects on Adderall, so we never tried anything in that class again.  He definitely does better on Ritalin.
