Diagnosed at age 41 with ADHD | ADHD Information

I'm almost 50 and was diagnosed just a couple of years ago. It was a relief to know what is happening. It explained a lot of my behaviour all the way from childhood. I am actually glad to have the diagnosis and I personally would not want to be "normal".

I take straight, generic MPD so I cannot give specifics about Concert. However, the benefits should be similar. In my case, the two biggest problems I have are distractions (i.e. mental wandering) and not knowing when to end discussions. Both of which have improved dramatically since I started my medication. I don't notice any "direct" effects in the sense that I "know" I am less distracted or I consciously end a conversation when I should. Instead, it just happens.

Three years ago, I got a reprimand for my behaviour before I knew it was caused by ADD. Now, I am in line for a promotion because of the changes.

It's been a loooongggg 40 years with this disorder!!  Now I'm just glad to have figured out why I've been a little different from everyone else.  I had suspected that I may have this disorder on and off my last 10 years, but never got tested.  I am going to start Concerta next week after my Dr. prescribes the medcial dosage.   I already know that appetite loss is one of the side effects.  Can anyone tell me good things about going on these meds at my age and the benefits from what I may experience.  Weight loss does not bother me, since I am an emotional eater and overweight.  thanks
