Switching from Intuniv to Guanfacine?! | ADHD Information

Share
-Hi. I'm currently on Intuniv 3mg taken once per morning, and I love
it.
-However, I'm losing my prescription coverage soon, and cannot
afford Intuniv without insurance.
-I'm hoping I can switch to generic guanfacine since it is essentially
the same medication
-What is the approximate guanfacine dosage in relation to 3mg
Intuniv?
-Would I have to take guanfacine twice per day to emulate the effects
of Intuniv?
-Thank you

I think you would take guanfacine 1-1/2 mg twice a day to be the equivalent of 3 mg Intuniv.  You can split that pill.

My child used to take guanfacine at 8:30 am and 7:30 pm.  Now he takes Intuniv at 8:30 am.  Things are going smoother for him on the Intuniv, for it's more in his system in the morning than the guanfacine was.  I think that experience is pretty common.  Just letting you know to expect a little bit of a difference!

You can try contacting the manufacturer of Intuniv if you no longer can afford it.  They might be willing to give you a discount.  It couldn't hurt to try!

i think ill do that, calling them i mean. if that doesnt work, i can
always use the guanfacine like u said . thank you!
