11yr boy on Metadate CD 60 mg, | ADHD Information

Hello, I have a couple of questions.  I have a son who is 11 years old and he is on Metadate cd.  I am giving it to him an hour before school at 7:00 am to get it into his system as he just started Jr. High. Math is first subject and his hardest.  He gets off school at 3:20 and I have noticed his meds are pretty much worn off.  Can you tell me if the same thing is happening to you?  He is on the highest dose and I don't know if we should switch or what.  Homework is a battle every night, tears and all.  Can you suggest any thing or tell me your story and let me know if you are on the same meds and what you are experiencing?

We are on concerta. son has been on this since he was shy of 7. He too is on a very high dose but dose doesn't matter as it depends on how the person metabolizes the med. We also have our 13 yr old son on guanfacine in addition to the concerta, again since he was shy of 7. both get us through meds. If he has sports and needs a little something, we give him 1 mg of guanfacine ( tenex another term) but we really haven't had to.

do you think this med is the best one for your son? Have you tried others? Jr. is tough, as he is probably starting puberty as well!

Hi,

My daughter (age 15) is on Concerta, and we also find that it wears off in the late afternoon.  So , to get her through her homework, we give her a 5 mg tablet of methylphenidate when she gets home from school.  This carries her through the evening.  Methylphenidate is the same medicine as in Concerta.
