any good strattera stories? | ADHD Information

Hi Crazycat, I thought I would answer both your thread & pm together so that others might benefit.

My son is 9 & on 60mg of Strattera since August, & he is having the best year of his life!  He has not received anything lower then a 94% on his tests& reports, his teacher has called him a role model for the class on more then 1 occasion, made the travel basketball team, has made new friends & not lost old ones, people call here to ask for playdates, can finally write an essay in 1 sitting, there is a girl in class that likes him, & is in an all around better happier mood.

Each week we saw steady improvement until it reached a plateau at around 6 weeks.  We actually started out at 25mg, went to 40mg & 60mg seems to help his distractability the most, otherwise we would have had to add some Stim like Adderall & we did not want that.

I hope this answers everything, let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello everyone..my ten yr old boy has been on strattera for about three weeks now. After having some problems with sleep, stomacheache and then lethargy the first week,he now seems better,side-effect wise, anyhow. What I am wondering,is do any of you have any positive stories about strattera? It seems to be a very conflicted medicine-some hate it,some are just unimpressed, some ok.I am noticing a few small changes in his ability to focus and stay self-controlled when in frustrating situations, but I keep questioning it-"am I using wishful thinking?"-second-guessing it.It so far hasnt seemed to be all that drastic in any area.Hoping someone out there can give me some reason to hope.Isn't strattera the non-stimulant form of adderall? h-m-m,Dilenger4,I am not quite sure about that..maybe someone else knows?Yes just found out it is.  Ok,Dilenger4,thanks for the info! Having just read your other posts,I am curious to know if you have had any luck yet in figuring out how to get a perscription..and also, great achievements on your part with college, job, etc!! I hope you'll be out of that dark basement soon, and back up in the light! Altho my boys both were evaluated and have therapy sessions with a pediatric psychologist, the one with ADHD did get his perscription through our regular family practitioner.I agree with the others advising you to check out low-cost community health organizations,too-hope things start looking up for you soon!

Hello CrazyCat!!

My son CJ has been on Statterra for a little over two months now and I must say that it has been awesome!! He is in the second grade and is doing better than ever! It was the first medicine that we tried and he is on the lowest dose..18mg and what a change it has made!! He has had night terrors since he was two and has had trouble with grinding his teeth, since the Stratterra not one episode of either. His whole attitude has changed and I must say that it is not all the drug but a big part of it. I haven't recieved a phone call from the school either, since he has started!! Let me tell you, him just being able to sit still is a major breakthru..lol.. I hope everything works out for your son, good luck!

Hi, I have been reading the posts about Strattera.  My 12 year old has just been given a prescription for Strattera.  He has been on Adderall.  My questions is this: Do any of you have experiance going on and off Strattera?  We give him the Adderall during the week.  He does not take it when he is not in school.  In reading the posts, it sounds like there is a period of "getting over the side effects".  Do the "side effects" repeat if you miss a day or two (weekend).  How long can he be off Strattera without repeating the side effects?  Thanks for your help.
