Impulsive, lack of focus, inattentive.... | ADHD Information
duh - the kid has Autism/ADHD!
Son is having problems in school. Keeping in mind that he
is autistic, and was thrown into the throes of middle
school (he's a new 6th grader) I think he's doing okay.
But the lack of focus/impulsivity and inattentiveness is
very obviously affecting his ability to function in the
classroom (and this is a self-contained ASD class).
He's currently on 15mg of Focalin XR. He'd been taking
the meds at 7:30am (gets on the bus at 8:00am) but it was
very obviously not lasting long enough through the day.
So, we tried for nearly a week to switch it to 8:30am
(having the school nurse give it to him) and well, it's
not making really any difference.
So, looks like we're switching to 20mg. I'm waiting to
hear back from ped to see if we should go back to giving
it at home (which to me, is ideal) or let school dose
him. It's just very obvious that he's having a hard time
doing any of his work, etcWe do 40mg of Vivaynse in the morning and 2 mg of Intuniv at the moment. Sometimes I think te meds help and then other times - like this very moment - he's is typical defiant, abrasive self that drives everyone nuts....We thought about having the school dose him, but I don't have alot of faith in the nurse's bedside manner to make sure he gets the meds with the least amount of stress.
