Hello,

I am a mother of a 12 year old boy in 7th grade. I have been struggling with him since he started pre-k. My son has been on many medications and seems to suffer from side effects as the dose gets higher. School and summer camps have been a nighmare for me. Even on meds I have not seen any improvement in his behavior. The schools make the situtation worse by having a negative impact on my son's self esteem. Now it's out of control and I am lost on how to help him. He suffers from anger and has no self control. I don't want to loose my son to this please help with suggestions

You can protect your son from the school staff with an IEP (independent education plan). Have you tried omega-3? It helps with mood/anger.

He has an IEP since 2nd grade but nothing has worked year aftrer year. The doctor says he needs a high dose of stimulents but the high dose increases his anger and aggression. He has severe ADHD and ODD and stimulents do not help him., at most stiluments help him 2 to 3 hours a day. I feel like someone needs to help him and I dont know who that someone is????

Your son sounds exactly like my son who is now 15. We
also found that when we increased stimulants, agitation
and anger followed especially in the evening time. After
consulting with a child psychiatrist,we finally came to
grips that beside ADHD, our guy was also Bipolar.
Theoretically speaking you don't give a person with
Bipolar, stimulants, on the other hand what do you do to
obtain enough focus so that your child can function with
his peers? If your lucky, Strattera might work, but if
not, then it come down to a delicate balance of med
cocktail. I realize that it is scary to think that your
child has to deal with a handful of pills everyday
for the rest of his life, but the alternative as you have
seen is far worse; both for him and those around him.
You must level the playing field. By the way, regarding
a summer camp, I highly recommend Camp Soar. We used it
for several summers and have never had a phone call home.

It has taken us several years to get to this formula but
it seems to be the one that optimizes his focus and
minimizes mood swings and agitation.

Focalin seems to be effective for focus and the one
stimulant that causes the least agitation.
Invega is a longer lasting form of Risperdal and has help
to cool the aggression.
Depakote has leveled the mood swings.

Hope that helps
