Best drug for Inattentive ADDers?

Hi,
I would love some input here. :) I have been on 30mg Adderall XR for inattentive ADD. My therapist wants to put me on Ritalin because she believes Ritalin is better for inattentive space cadets like me. :) Any thoughts? Is there a med that works best for inattentives? I think my Adderall is great, but she thinks there are still spots for improvement, most notably in some social anxiety that seems to creep up sometimes. I really don't like taking anti-anxiety meds because they leave me feeling flat-lined and depressed. Any thoughts on ritalin or other meds for inattentive ADDers? Thanks!

People tend to think if it's new it's best. But I think Ritalin (at least for me)  is a far better drug then adderall. For one thing, Ritalin tends to work mostly in your brain. It doesn't have the bouncing off walls effects like Adderall. With adderall I feel like I'm speeding but not getting anywhere. With Ritalin I focus for hours on my task I'm currently learning one of the most difficult languages in the world (Japanese) and I need that focus, I got adderall prescriptions piled up in the corner, and I still relay on Ritalin.

Thanks for your reply. :) I do feel exactely what you mean about sometimes bouncing off the walls, or feeling like I had energy, but no where to direct it. Do you (or anyone else out there) know equivalent dose for Adderall to Ritalin. I currently take 30mg Adderall XR and wondering what would be equal in Ritalin. Does Ritalin work stronger than Adderall? Thanks! :) I heard Ritalin is stronger than Adderall in the same dosages. But as far as i know Ritalin does not come in a delayed form such as Adderall XR where the second dose kicks in after four hours. You could always take a second does of Ritalin though.  Dilenger438363.7502199074

My daughter age 10 has inattentive type and she takes Concerta which is a type of extended release ritalin. It is great to only have her take a pill one time a day. It lasts 8-10 hours and is working well for her. I also have read that there is a ritalin SR. I hope this helps.

malliesmom38363.8518287037Thanks malliesmom. I wasen't aware that there was extended release ritalin.  hmmm...this has me wondering now.  i take 10 mgs of a dderall x r and i bounch all day without getting anything accomplished or very l ittle anyways but my mood is wonderful!

There are actually a variety of different methylphenidate products with varying release mechanisms and half lives. (including ritalin, concerta, ritalin sr, metadate er, metadate cd, ritalin la, etc.)

As for the adderall/ritalin equivalencies...there have been various studies on this and some have found that adderall is twice as potent (ex: 5mg adderall = 10mg ritalin) However, each person responds differently to individual stimulants so it is important to start at a low dose and gradually adjust medications until the lowest effective dose is found.

Also, there isn't necessarily a *best* drug for inattentive, etc. AD/HD. Because of the highly varied responses to different medications from individual to individual, it's best that a person tries different methods until they find what suits them best.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Here is a good article is anyone is interested. It gave me a lot of information on adderall and ritilan.
