Where to turn | ADHD Information

Look for a female adhd teen therapy support group in your area (yes, they exist). If you contact a psychiatric or mental health office, they may be able to point you in the right direction.

I really feel for you as I've been through rough times like that myself with oldest son.  At 16, kids feel like they are grown and know everything but of course they don't.  There's no reasoning with them.  My advice to you is to keep trying anything you can to get her and you both help.  It's really hard to say what might help your daughter as every situation is different and every child will respond differently to treatments.  Counseling and support groups helped us.  If you can find a counselor or someone else that your daughter feels comfortable with, then they might be able to convince her to start taking her meds again.

You just keep trying.  A few years and maturity can make a big difference with any child.  And she might surprise you by turning things around.  My son did.  He is still struggling at times mostly because of the limitations his bad choices have put on certain aspects of his life.  Life is all about learning lessons.  We've all got them to learn!

Hang in there.  Hold on to all the joy your daughter has brought you up until this point and be confident that you'll experience joy with her again.  But remember too that your job is not to make her happy but to do whatever is in her best interest.  Not always an easy thing to deal with as a parent!

Hello everyone I am here because I am at my wits end with my 16 year old daughter. She was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD at age 8. She was put on Ritalin for the ADHD and the ODD. She refused to take her medication last year and this year I just can't handle her with out it. She recently started dating one of her good friends that she has known for 4 years and I thought he would be a good influence on her. Turns out it's the other way around. I have found out that when they are together they smoke marijuana and are sexually active. Of course when I questioned her about this she denied it. When she went to school today I searched her room and found a pack of cigarettes and a bowl (which is a device for smoking marijuana). I am livid. Also, everything we discuss turns into an argument. Whether it be getting up for school, doing homework, what time she can come home etc. We never get along unless she gets her way. My husband is not in the picture and she is my only child. When I discuss her taking her medication with her she tells me she doesn't need it that she has everything under control, when clearly she doesn't. I just don't know what to do at this point. Any advice on this would be helpful. Thank you!
