pulling hair out | ADHD Information

Hi there my 6 year old going on 7 has started puling her hair out. this has been over the last 4 weeks that i have noticed clumps that she gives me. PLEASE HELP . her daddy died in march this year and we nursed him through a terrible illness. we have not had daddy at home for awhile as he had to work away. her behaviour hard at the moment and i am doing it alone as i have no family around me and my husbands family are horrid to me

 

 

I'm so sorry for your loss.

My son twists his hair, and he has a friend who pulls his hair out. It's a
way to discharge the super energy surges he has.
Find her something else to do. It's super convenient to pull on something
that's always there, and it's up near her brain, where the thoughts are
driving her nuts.
I'd tell her doctor. It could be that there is a medication that could help.
She's probably too young to do therapy.
Maybe you could try to convince her to tug at her ears when she gets that
urge? She needs to do something else to take the place of her new habit.
Tugging her ears might be strange, but it would be better than hair
pulling, and it will be an easier habit to break when she gets older.

i want to thank you both very much for your repleys sorry i have not got back to you sooner things have been tricky here with the family but my daughter seems to have stoped the hair pulling for now, she is VERYfocused on death and she thinks that we are all going to get cancer and die .

 

so i am working with her with that.

I am also very sorry for your loss and also for everything that you are going through with your child.  I can only imagine how difficult things must be for you right now.  We only want what's best for our children and to know that they are in pain would only break our hearts!

My story is a little different than yours but my daughter would pull out her eyelashes and eyebrows whenever she would get stressed out at school....which was happening a lot because of bullying that we were having to deal with.  With a lot of help from the school and also by lowering her medication we have been able to help her learn how to deal with her stress in a less harmful way. It has been very recently but the pulling has seemed to decrease a fair bit so I'm crossing my fingers that everything we have done so far has helped.  I know that my situation is nothing compared to what you have gone through but I know the anxiety that we have gone through so I can only imagine what stress and pain your family is going through.  Please know that you will be in our prayers!
