AWESOME 4th grade teacher | ADHD Information

She sounds fabulous!!!!! A great teacher can make all the difference in the world!  Congrats to you!  It will make your school year much more rewarding & comfortable.  We are in the same boat so I can totally relate!  Our DS is in 2nd grade and his current teacher used to teach Pre-K and had him when he was in Pre-K, which was our starting point for diagnosis & meds.  She traveled the road w/him & us getting started on this venture and was great then...and still is beyond great.  She is making us realize now that last year's teacher was maybe a little too "pushy for perfection".  We are so thankful to have her as she truly loves our son & works with him as you have described your son's teacher does.  It really makes you feel good as a parent to have the positive comments and know that your child is getting what they need in the classroom to help them succeed.

Just because we all often complain about the teachers, schools, etc. just not understanding our ADHD/ADD kids, here's a story on the opposite side.

My husband and I went to our back to school night a couple of weeks ago and liked Andy's teacher right away (we were nervous because she had taught 5th grade for the previous 5 or 6 years -- dear lord how was she going to deal with a 4th grader who writes at the 1st/2nd grade level, even with an IEP?!?)  This was a group meeting and still she found ways to reassure us that he would get there eventually.

I met with her privately last week in preparation for a meeting next week with his doc.  She adores him; she truly recognizes his interests and strengths and takes him aside to assist when he's not getting it.  She has made appropriate accomodations for him, but is not dumbing things down and is, in fact, slowly raising the bar.  She even said to me "He's got more going for him than going against him".  Words a Mom really wants to here from his teacher of only 1 month!

Wow....
