Menina- You should find some resources.

look for support groups for adults and or adhd parents
I saw a link on this site

If your kids have health insurance see if any family counsling is covered.

Find the free and sliding scale health clinics near you. Aside from doctors,
many have workshops and/or support groups.

I am sure it is stressful for your husband- we werre talking about this in
another thread. Make sure he knows how much you want to change and
try to come up with ways to reduce your complicated lives and maybe set
some money aside for treatment.

Lots of adhd people get "coaches" - people who they check in with and
help them organize and prioritize. I don't, but I am thinking about it.

Of course, that costs money too, but some are free for the first consult or
have sliding scales.

ADHD costs money- bounced check fees, late fees, lost stuff, lost library
books, I've even lost checks. Getting control of the situation will help you
stop losing money.

I receive my Adderall prescription from my family doctor.

I did go to a counselor a few times, and she thought that I had ADD, but could not prescribe medication. So, I went to my own doc, and he did it. I think he would have done it without the advice of the counselor, but I hadn't even thought of going to him first. I didn't think it was possible, but it is.

Also, my health insurance has a thing (forget the name) where they will pay for 3 visits to counseling, etc. However, if you want to see  more of the counselor, or need more therapy - you have to pay the entire bill after that point. Or, that person can give you a referral to someone else. Weird, I opted to go straight with my co-pay, and no freebies. My co-pay was only . However, I later got the entire bill becasue I needed to reach a deductible. I wish I had gone with the 3 free sessions. I don't go to the counselor any more - I check in with my family doctor every 3 months. I really wish I would have started with him.

I know how you feel.  I am very disorganized and so are my spouse and my child.  No matter how much I tell myself I need to get something done I never do it.  I always put things off until I get in trouble for putting things off.  Right now I feel like I'm on a downward spiral completely out of control and the crash is not going to be pretty.

I have never sought a diagnosis of adhd, but from all the research I have done I know I have it.

Good Luck

Hi. I am an adult in my mid 30's. I have adhd all my life. I know what you mean about every day life bieng difficult for you. I deal with it all the time teaching children and the yearly or montly changes that take place in education. I get stressed easily which just adds to the problem. So, I have been trying to find ways to help myself minimize some of the effects.
I ran into a website that is very helpful - its called
www.resultsproject.org. It has a lot of information, including information on tests that you can get that show what you are laking in your body that may cause adhd symtoms. Some of these tests can be expensive but you may be able to get them from your doctor. This website is very insightful. A persons diet is a very big factor when dealing with adhd.
I also started reading a book that you could call your local health food store about or look for it online at pricegrabber.com or halfprice.com   Its called the ADD and ADHD Diet (... a comprehensive look at contributing factors and natural treatments for symtoms of Attention Deficit Disorder and Hyperactivity. This book is really good so far ! It lists symptoms that are behavioral, cognitive, social and muscular. And how these symptoms can vary from person to person. It discusses the symptoms and causes of adhd. It talks about how nutrition is a huge factor and how to build a healthy diet for a adhd adult or child. Lots of good info.
Hope this is helpful !
Good Luck !

WOW! I dont think ive ever written so many 4's in my life LOL!!! -Cass

I am 30 years old and i have 2 boys ages 11 and 3.  I am fairly certain that my eldest has add.  I believe that i may have add because everyday life is so difficult for me.  It seems like I am always doing something, but never accomplishing anything!!!  I have about 20 afghans that I have started crocheting and never finished.  I can't keep a job to save my life.  six weeks and i'm out because the boredom (for lack of a better word) kills me.  My husband is at his wits ends when it comes to my organization skills or lack therof.  I have been treated with ever kind of anti depressent known to man and none work.  The only thing that has ever pulled me out of depression even for a short while has been pain pills.  I don't drink alchohol.  I can't schedule or manage money.  I spend money and write checks that aren't worth the paper they are printed on.  I have just moved to this state a couple of months ago, after my mom and best friend was killed in a car accident because she was drunk.  She died the day after the worst fight she and i had ever had.    I have not sought help because of no insurance.  Psychiatrists are about 200 just for the initial visit.  Can you go to a family doctor for this type of thing?  I don't know what to do

Wow, can I add  that test  score to my  cum at college

This on-line test helped to open my eyes a bit.

I think you need to find a way to get treatment. I suppose good mental health is worth any amount of money really. Whatever it takes.
