Hi, I can't actually help you as such but can let you know you are not alone. My (just turned) 9 yr old son is always picking at his skin. The main problem we have is he picks his bottom lip and at times, his lip look s really sore and turns a whileish colour.........it's horrible. He also picks at any sores on his legs etc........his sores never heal as they never have a chance to.
With my sons adhd, he was on dexemphetamines for several months (off that med now) and I do beleive it was worse whilst on that med.
Next time we see our counsellor I will ask her what to do but I do know it's no good to be constantly at them to stop the picking as we did that and made no difference. I tried bandaids on all sores but that helped a little and I also got some pescription cream to heal the sores and noticed if he didnt have the sore to pick, he wouldnt pick as much. His "lip" was the worst and he still picks his lip (but not as much) to this day and has been for several months now.
Good luck.

Hey All. Anyone out there ever encountered a child who picks their skin to bleeding?... cuticles, arms, legs. Part of OCD, the compulsion aspect I know, but any ideas on what to do about it- apart from the high doses of rx which we're already on? luvox, adderall xr, intuiv. He's in first grade and it's now at the point where he's getting some blood on classroom materials and the teacher is fed up with putting bandaids on him all day. I think the next thing they will try is gloves. ughhh. We live in a very warm climate, but starting tomorrow he will be the only kid in his school wearing jeans/pants. Anyway, just wanted to throw the topic out there and see if anyone has creative ideas that worked. Thanks in advance!my son picks his cuticles until they bleed, he has no ails as he chews them off and now he has started on his feet. It is very sad
Our son picked his cuticles constantly while he was on medicine (focalin xr). We took him off last May and he hasn't picked them at all since. But now we have all his other issues to deal with! Feels like we're fighting a losing battle at times, doesn't it?
