God works miracles. Maybe this is one of them. How lucky your family is!!!

I guess it was a good thing he got those headaches, or maybe you wouldn't have discovered he no longer needs the medication.

I am astounded about the brain growing at different rates and possibly outgrowing ADHD.  I didn't know this possibility existed.  I know the doc mentioned it to you, but can you point me toward any literature on this subject?  I'd love to read more about it and figure out if there's a way to see if my child also might possibly grow out of his ADHD.

Supposedly there are different types of ADHD caused by different things.
If my son has the brain-growing-at-different-rates kind (which his
unexpected progress points to) then he should "grow out of it" when he's
finished growing.

There are a ton of tests that were done on my son. I'm not sure what
tipped off his doctor - he obviously has more experience diagnosing this
stuff than I do!

Seriously, when I heard he might grow out of it, it was a completely
bizarre thing. I just thought, no way. Even now, his doctor thought he
needed to have his dose upped at first. No one would have guessed that
this would have happened. I'm not complaining! I'm still shocked, and
hoping our luck holds! Thanks for your reply and again, congrats on the good news.  Hearing news like that even tops winning lotto! You were very fortunate to come across a thorough doctor/specialist who was prepared to go that step further. Great news for you guy's.How great for you and your son, Corrina! I wonder if this is something that's not that uncommon and, if so, how many kids out there are still on meds and don't need them any more? Congrats!  I am very happy for you and your son!!!!My son is officially off his ADHD meds!

When he was originally diagnosed his neuropsychologist said he thought
it was due to the sections of his brain growing at different rates, and
thought there was a chance he'd never need to be medicated.

I thought he would have to have a change in meds because he started
having headaches. When we stopped the meds to see if that's what was
going on, the headaches stopped, his mood evened out (he has had 2 in
school suspensions in the past 2 months), and although he needs more
breaks at school to focus, he's been doing really great.

So he's not going to go on a new medication. I'm so excited! This was
totally unexpected. I figured he'd be on it through college, or longer. I
have no issues with him being on meds if he needs them, but it's
definitely cheaper not to!

Wow Corrina, that is wonderful news.

Can I ask, does what the neurophyscologist said about different sections of the brain growing at different rates mean your son dosn't have adhd?  Is it something that will rectify itself as your son matures?  Does the neouro.........do any test/scans on the brain? I find this very interesting as I hav'nt heard anything like it before.

Anyway. excellent news for you and your son.
