Strattera and Mountain dewSo, my 12 year old has been on Strattera for about 2 years now and in the past 6 weeks was increased to 80 mgs. He was not doing his homework, bringing home just about all F's because he will not study. He claims that he does not need to study. So I figured that he medication is not working, so call the Dr. so that I can get him off of the med (has to be weened off) In the mean time, Monday after school, he starts drinking Mountain Dew and is now doing his homework without argument, excited about doing the school work. Telling us how to do his math problems and is exicited. So I begin weening him off the medication, today we are down to 50 mgs and he calls me when he gets home from school and wants to know why we are taking him of the med, because he could not concentrate today. What would yall do? I'm not an expert in any of this...but I believe Mountain Dew is quite high in caffeine. Many people with AdHd self-medicate with caffeine--whether it's a giant latte or sodasYes, Mountain Dew is high in caffiene. I don't remember he mentioned it to me, but we tried it and the caffiene actually calms him down. He seems more focused and patient. |
