Any1 had a child who went off of intuniv? | ADHD Information

Has anyone experienced a adversed effect when their child went off intuniv? My 7 yr old DS was on intuniv for about 3 weeks but when we changed docs she changed his meds to concerta (he was on it before did ok) which is fine because the intuniv made him so cranky and tired it was ridiculous. He was on 2 mg of intuniv dr said give him 1 mg for two days and then totally take him off so Saturday no meds at all....very hyper couldn't sit still or stop talking...today (Sunday) he started concerta but he just seemed crazy today...sensitive...angry...hyper...combative...basically you name it he had it today! I don't know if its from the intuniv or not, pretty sure its not the concerta cause had nothing like this when he started last time. I have seen a couple of things online about the withdraws from intuniv but it seems so new that its hard to get much info on it. Has anyone experienced or heard of similar effects? And if so do you know how long it last?Elias'mom40503.8193634259

I see that it's been a while since you post so this response may be useless to you-sorry!

My son is on Tenex (the short acting form of Intuniv) along with other meds.  On time the doc wanted to try to take him off the Tenex so we reduced the dose for a few days and then reduced it to nothing.  He got VERY emotional and weepy.  I can't really say how long it lasted because when I called the doc she put him back on it and he still talkes it today.

I hope your son has gotten better by the time you read this reply.  Let us know...

Thank you for your response! It seems to be getting a little better....but still having a couple a issues. I think he is going to need a higher dose of concerta seeing a whole lot hyperactivity again. But the new pysch we are seeing wants to increase hes meds slowly, so we are going to try it that way, but I feel like we are starting all over again! Not sure how we will make it to his next appt in mid December. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best!Hopefully the new psych won't make you wait too long!  I know that these docs are "supposed" to wait 1 month on a dose before increasing a dose (this is what my son's doc said anyway) but I think that is just ridiculous!  A few days, maybe a week but with stimulants it really doesn't take much longer than that to get an idea of what needs to be adjusted! When we were trying to get my son's meds right, I was on the phone with his doc at least every few days and she made adjustment every few days (even though she was "supposed" to wait a month!).  However your doc chooses to do it, I hope it works out for him!  Give us an update later!
