Adderall XR vs Adderall | ADHD Information

My almost 6 year old daughter has tried Adderall XR and Concerta and they both caused tics.She is on Strattera now and it is not working.This is the second time we have tried Strattera.Last time we tried it for 6 weeks and it didn't work.I thought if we tried it again it could work this time but I don't see any changes.She almost ran out in front of a car the other day.She is real impulsive.She has never tried the regular release stimulants.I am thinking that reg adderall might not cause tics like the XR because it doesn't stay in your system as long.When she was on Concerta and the Adderall XR she would tic in the evenings.It is breaking my heart to see her struggling in school.She was doing so good on the concerta.She was the best reader in her class.Now she can't hardly read.She told me the other day that she was stupid and hates herself.It is really hurting her self esteem.She doesn't understand why she's not doing as good as she was a few weeks ago.Please Help!Brenda

Hi...My son has tried Strattera after trying Adderal XR..It did nothing for him. I know how their struggle breaks your heart, It does mine as well..and it's frustrating. The Adderall XR was way too much as far as the down time, it left him an emotional wreck...Now he is on just adderall, 15mg and it works much better because it seems to be a slow starter and gradually leaves the system...There is a book out that explains it all so clearly...At least for me it was helpful because no one seems to be able to really 'tell' me anything of substance...If you would like the name, let me know or e-mail and we can help one another out...God bless and hang in there!

My daughter has been on Adderall XR for 2 years and it suddenly stopped working.  We had tried several other medications with no success.  Cocnerta worked great the 1st week then it was like she was taking nothing.  We increased her to 54mg and the same thing happened.  It worked for a week and then nothing.  Ritalin LA  was horrible when she came off of it.  She spoke about being cursed and said she hated her life.  She has never spoken like this before.  I am fustrated with trying all these different medications.  I am thinking about just taking her off of the medicine altogether and see how she does.  If anyone has any suggestions, I would kindly appreciate it.  Please help//////

the adderall xr was scary for me too with my 15 year old, talking about hating life and being crazy...It's frustrating but I have no idea of what else to do either...One day I think we have a handle on it and then the next day it's all radical...I took my son off for one month for the same reason and he got kicked out of msap and pushed into mainstream for not being organized, disruptive, etc..I just feel your frustration and wanted to share that you are not alone...
