too much medicine?? | ADHD Information

My son was on adderall 15mg xr for two years.  this school year, he was having some problems with focusing so the pediatrician upped it to 20mg, but it didn't help.  recently it was upped again to 25mg, which he's been on for two weeks.  still doesn't seem to be helping...when he went on it, and for the last two years, it's been like a miracle, all problems with focus just gone...i don't understand what's changed.  can the dosage being too high mess up the focus? It could be that the medicine stopped working. It happens. If you've
almost doubled the dose and it's not having any effect, I'd look into
switching the medication.

My son recently came off his medication. It wasn't working anymore, and
when the doctor upped the medication, he stayed up until 6:30 the next
morning - he was awake for 24 hours on one pill. He was also having
migraines due to high blood pressure.

If the dosage is too high you will get severe side effects. If it's not
helping him maintain his focus, then the medication isn't working any
more, and no matter how much he takes it won't help him.

Good luck! How old is your child? When the child is entering puberty body chemistry changes and this is the time when the med or dose might have to be changed. However, if your child isnt experiencing unacceptable side affects, the dose still may be too low or perhaps changing the med is what may be needed. I also suggest that you seek out a specialist in med managment at this point. Pedicaticins do not have the knoweldge nor expertise. Please keep us posted.
my son is 11 yrs old.  i do believe he is starting puberty...he's starting to get some pimples, getting taller, voice a touch deeper...what type of specialist does one go to for this?  before he started adderal, i had him evaluated by an educational psychologist who recommended the adderal...she doesn't prescribed medication, just advises the pediatrician to do so...any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Get a refferal for a good child psychiatrist or a neuro/psych. Phychiatrirsts, and a neuro/psych unlike a psychologist has a medical degree so therefore has the knowledge and expertise to diagnose and do a trial of medication and can  also prescribe meds.
