taking pills | ADHD Information

We have the same issues my DD has a appliance in her mouth for her orthodontist work, so the capsule gets stuck up there we sprinkle it on pudding but it is still a chore to get her to take it but we are getting there I always gave my son his pill. I would hold it at the very ends of my index
and middle finger, put them all the way in his mouth, and drop it right into
his throat. My 5 year old son is on Strattera and is doing well, but my mornings are a batttlefield trying to get him to take it. I have tried every single suggestion in the book to try to get him to swallow the pills, nothing works. I end up opening the capsule and putting it in chocolate milk, which tastes gross, but it the only way to get it in him and every sip is a battle. He gets a jelly bean for every sip he takes. My DH just got a new job and I work 3 days per week, so he is with a sitter those mornings and she cannot get him to take it at all. What to do? I am seeing his DR on Monday to talk about switching to a medicine that is easier to take, but he originally told me he wanted to start with Strattera because when it works, it works very well, with "by far the fewest side effects." It does work well when he takes it and the only side effect I have noticed is dry mouth, so that is good, but I can't can't stand these battles every morning. Any advice?

When  my daughter first started Focalin we were told to empty the capsuls in a spoonful of apple sauce.

The doctor didn't tell me to do this but I started it anyway is after she ate the applesauce spoon I gave her the capsul put back together to swallow as practice taking pills. It took like 3 days for her to be able to swallow the pill without trouble. Now even when she needs meds like antibotics she asks the dr for pills instead of syrup. So much easier!!!

My son had a TERRIBLE time taking pills. We finally did applesauce and that did the trick. In the beginning, we would make it a game and have two spoons. He
would have to eat both (one at a time) as quick as he could in one swallow each and then guess which one had the pills in it.

He took his meds with applesauce for years. He just mastered taking it with water about a year ago.

Keep persisting until you find something that works. Ice cream? yogurt?
If I had a sitter, and this problem, I would resort to straight out bribery. I'd offer his very favorite goodie, which would be sitting on the table in plain sight. It wouldn't matter if it was a cupcake or a candy cane, or a chocolate bar, or that it's 7 AM. He will find a way.

I am assuming that you've started with cake sprinkles, moved up to mini M&Ms and so forth.Jessica N40522.8891435185
