Newly Diagnosed 4yr old

My son has had some issues that I knew were getting worse
so I made the choice to have him evaluated which was just
done Friday (12-10-10) and the doctor was sure he was
ADHD. My son was put on Vyvanse 1x a day trying a half
capsule for 2 weeks then if no improvement moving to a
full capsule.
In just the 2 days I have seen slight improvements which
shocked me since I figured it would be week till any kind
of change.
My biggest question is, although I know the side effects
and have researched the med has anyone else had success
with this medication? I was ADD and his dad was ADHD
along with my brother so this diagnosis wasn't a huge
shock for us. My oldest daughter, who is now 8, was diagnosed with ADHD at 4 as well. We had to try several different meds before we found one that worked well for her. Just in the past year we tried Vyvanse and it did nothing for my daughter. She was taking Adderall before but it was not lasting thru homework time so we decided to try the vyvanse b/c it is supposed to last longer. We ended up just uping her dose of Adderall. Be patient if the meds have to be changed a few times to find the right one for your son. Also, when kids go thru growth spurts or puberty their med will have to be adjusted then as well. Hang in there!!! He was taking a half dose of 10mg for the last 3 days but I
noticed it was wearing off around 2 when we gave it at 7am.
I called the doctor and since he was written for 20mgs a
day he said to just go ahead and give him the full 20mgs a
day and see how he is doing. So today he got the 20mgs and
here it is 1:30 and the meds are wearing off again already.
Since it has only been a few days I am going to wait and
see how he does once he's been on it longer before
contacting the doctor again. We go back for the follow up
Jan 14th.
