Has anyone had any luck with a non-stimulant med? My son cannot tolerate stimulants. He was recently diagnosed with ODD to go along with his ADHD. The stimulants cause him to have outrageous fits of rage, but I need to find something that will help him in school without meds he never makes it through the week without having to be picked-up due to behavior. Please, any feedback would be greatly apperciated!!
Tenex also known as guanfacine or Intuniv (long lasting) may help. You can ask your doctor. My daughter took it as she gets tics from the stimulants. Unfortunately she had an unusual reaction to guanfacine too and it caused a lot of anger in her. I don't think that it is a common side effect. That kind of reaction to stimulants could also mean you are dealing with a mood disorder instead of ADHD and ODD (which are easily confused). For example, stimulants are notorious for causing mania in people with bipolar disorder. We found this out the hard way with our BP daughter.
