getting off intuniv | ADHD Information

Share
my son was put on intuniv in july, never thrilled with it but felt if he could do ok with a nonstimulant med ok. but not focusing well in school and so hyper. so i asked his dr to put him back on adderall xr. he said though you need to taper off intuniv, but can take adderall xr with the intuniv. that seems like a bit much to me. he also said to start him back on tenex twice a day but never said when to start back on that. what would happen to just stop the intuniv?Intuniv needs to be tapered off... it's a blood pressure medication and going off it too quickly can cause blood pressure to raise dangerously high.

However Tenex and Intuniv are the same meds (short and long lasting versions), so if you are going from Intuniv to Tenex, I wouldn't think it would be a big deal.... I'm no doctor though, so ask your doc.

My son went off of Tenex for a little while and the doc tapered him down.  But she tapered it very quickly.  I think within a week he was off of it completely.  It turned out he needed it so he went back on it pretty quickly.

My son is on a stimulant/Tenex combo and it works very well for him!  I know it sounds like a lot but the Tenex does wonders for the stimulant side effects.  My son had a problem with irritability and moodiness on a stimulant alone (especially Adderall!).  Once we added the Tenex it went very well! My son has also tried Tenex by itself and it is definitely not enough! So I'm not surprised that the Intuniv is not doing the trick for you alone.

josh was on tenex with adderall for yrs, it did ok, then when he saw a new dr she wanted to try intuniv on him, since tenex and intuniv are the same i guess he was taken off of tenex. so now i requested him to go back to adderall the dr said to taper off intuniv but give adderall with it. he never mentioned when to start back on tenex, he wrote a script also tenex. so i have no clue when to start back on tenex. happy holidays everybody!!!
