My 10 year old grandson suddenly experienced behavior and concentration while on generic adderal. He is now taking ritalin SR and the medication is not holding him more than 6-7 hours. He is also having sudden behavior changes while on the ritalin during the day. These behaviors appear to occur at specific times of the day ( like around noon and 2 PM) He is then able to calm himself and refocus while at school. He is only on his second prescription of the medication. These problems are causing havoc in the school setting. By the way, this is the only setting that we see this type of behavior change. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
We had a similar experience with our son when he was on Focalin, which I believe is in the same family as ritalin. I've read a few stories on the boards about some kids not doing well on the extended release meds because of this very reason. You may want to ask your doctor about trying short acting meds instead, even if he has to go to the nurse halfway through the day. Good luck!
