Mirtzapine??? | ADHD Information

Just wondering if anyone has children who are taking Mirtzapine.  My DD, 10, is ADHD and mild Asperger's.  She takes Focalin during the day, which works really well for her, and clonidine plus melatonin at night for sleep (or she would literally be up all night).  The clonidine doesn't seem to be working as well now.  She sometimes has trouble falling asleep and wakes up in the middle of the night.  Anyway, she has a lot of anxiety during the day.  Her doctor suggested Mirtzapine at night for sleep and, hopefully, the anti-anxiety factor would last throught the next day.  The side effect would be that she would be sleepy also the next day.  We plan to try it tonight, as we have a school holiday coming up.  He prescribed 15 mg, but I am supposed to quarter it.  I was just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with the medicine.  I am always anxious when trying a new med and don't know what to expect.  Thanks. Thanks for the info.  She takes 1mg of Melatonin.  May try going up on it.  She was up until after midnight last night, even with the Clonidine and Melatonin. How much melatonin does she take?  I ask because when our son took it regularly, we had to increase his dose periodically as he worked up a tolerance to it.  We would start at a quarter pill, work our way up over several months to 3mg, then stop it for a few months and start again at a quarter.  We did this for several years successfully.... we would use Benadryl or just suffer while working the Melatnonin out of his system.

My point, I guess, is that you may want to try going up on the Melatonin before adding something else.

I take mirtzapine at night. Quarter of a pill makes me sleepy the next day but if you have a pill cutter that can manage to get it cut into 8ths I do just fine with it. After you have it quartered instead of cutting it into another 'pie' shape turn the quarter on it's side and cut it like that.

It takes practice but you can get it cut into 8ths. I'm 140 pounds and that dose is perfect for me.

my son has the same issues and he cannot take meletonin it gives him severe stomache cramps.. he takes clomipramine 10mg nightly and it works wonders, we havent had a sleepless night in over 6 months.I was prescribed Mirtzapine last year to help sleep and lessen anxiety. It did help a little with anxiety but I found that I was extremely restless and skittish throughout the night after taking it.
