I'm on my way to the Dr. office to discuss with our family phycian as to if my 6 yr. old is suffering from ADD. Her Dad has it, is it something you can inherite? I have wondered off and on throughout the last two yrs. if she has ADD. Some times she goes through periods where she can't focus, can't listen, can't sit still very well and is just plain naughty and angry, and other times you would never know, so I go back and forth, wondering if this is just her type of personality.
She started kind. in Aug. Has been doing very well, although she does struggle and get frustrated with somethings. Started around Thanksgiving, she started getting sick, she has been on prednisone and cough syrup with codiene, plus zyrtec and some augmentin (antibioitic) off and on since then. Her behavior has gotten progressively worse, at home and at school. I'm getting e-mails and notes from the teacher that she can'e stop talking and she won't listen, that she gets up and down from her seat and asks for help after she just explained to the whole class what they were to do. Part of me wants to think she is having some reaction to all this medicine, but then some of me thinkg this is the ADD. She had a great weekend at home with us, and a great day at school on Mon. then the rest of the week has gone down hill.
Last night she was even having issues in her sleep, yelling and throwing her arms around. This breaks my heart, she is suffering. she tells me, Momma...I want to be good in school, but I just can't. She said she can't think sometimes because of the noise. Her Teacher has moved her up to the front of the class, but this doesn't seem to help all that much. Do I really want to medicate her or can I pull out all the stops here at home and try and fix this with behavior modification? I know nothing about ADD, please help me!
Helpless and frustrated Mother!
Thank you, i did so a google search on that and it seem's that you may be right. Her Dr. want's me to take her off all her medication and see how she is after that. She also gave me a paper and the teacher a paper to be filled out for ADHD, just in case after being taken off all the medication, that her behavior doesnt improve. I'm not going to jump into putting her on medication, she is only 6 and I'm only about 50% sure that it could be ADD. Thanks.
