Gagging on Methylin ER? | ADHD Information
Hello everyone,
I have a 5 year old son that is on Methylin ER. It seems like since his dose has gone up over the last year or so (especially within the month or so) we have had a lot of problems with him gagging after eating or after taking his medicine and then vomiting. It doesn't matter if he has an empty or full stomach. It's not a constant thing, but it's becoming more and more frequent and we are starting to think it's related to his meds. (He's already had the stomach flu this year so we've ruled that out)
He is on a pretty hefty dose as he has pretty severe symptoms, but not more than what is recommended for his weight.
We fully intend to bring this issue up with his doctor when we take him in for his medication followup next week, but I was wondering if there was anybody else out there with first-hand experience with this side-effect???
My husband an I are baffled and our poor kiddo is pretty miserable, so we are going to discuss switching meds with the Dr. We are still pretty new to the ADHD thing and our son has only ever been on some form of methylin so we don't know a whole lot about what's out there other than what we've researched.
Anybody else having this problem or know somebody who does?
Thanks everybody!
I don't have any experience with Methylin. I just wanted to share that I gag when I am anxious. Do you think it is giving him anxiety? Another thing to think about is maybe it being some sort of tic.
I suppose anxiety or tics are always a possiblity. It's so hard to tell in a young child though. :( He sees the doctor this week, so we will be mentioning this to him for sure. In the meantime, we've stopped giving him the medicine to see if that's helped and it really has we haven't had one vomiting episode since.
Thanks for your input!
It is hard to know whats going on when they are so little. I still have a hard time and my son is 9 now. It is good that he has stopped without having the meds so you know that is what is causing it. Hopefully the Dr. will know more of what is going on and get it all straightened out. Good luck to u and your boy.
