Strattera Side effect: feedback pls | ADHD Information

The tiredness goes away, and I suspect is not unusual.

As for the stims, you give them melatonin or valerian root or Gaba etc to sleep. Natural sleep remedies are all over the place.

As far as eating, you move lunch back to after school, and you feed them dinner at the regular time, and then another dinner before bedtime if they are hungry.

Nothing is perfect. You just have to make it work. If you don't work with it and you lack patience, your child will wind up with no tool to succeed. These are not magic pills.Jessica N40594.8666550926

Hello all. My 9 year old just got "officially" dia with ADHD (inattentive). In the past we tried several stimulant meds but they kept him up, another he was on he wouldnt eat, and another he was grump. So now we are trying "Strattera" we have been told it is a differnt type of drug (non stimulant).

First 4 days at 25 mg, not much changing but no bad reactions, this morning gave him his first 40mg dose and he was really tired! After an hour or so on the couch he is fine now. I didnt think the meds got into his system that fast...but maybe they do? I know the possible side effects say "tired and can be grumpy" just was wondering if you can share what your child experienced with Strattera. ANy good results out there?
Thx.

My daughter whom just turned 14 is on Strattera.  She as well got very sleepy with this meds.  What my doctor did was split up the medication.  At breakfast she gets 18mg and right after school she gets the other 18mg.  This has worked very well for her not feeling sleepy through the day.  Some nights I have had to give her a natural pill Valerian Root to help "ease" her mind so she can sleep. This is only when her day has been long and stressful.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Brownie for posting about Strattera. My son is now doing GREAT on it. Not drowsy anymore. HOwever I am wondering if he should be on a higher dose? He is 70 pounds and is on 40mg every morning? I am curious how much 'difference you noticed? ANy feedback would be great.
His anxiety got better and he was more willing  to try things at school during recess. Attention is somewhat better...but I think could improve a bit more.

Thx.

With the Strattera you have to be very careful on the dosage.  It is geared towards weight and that is something to always remember because to high a dosage could cause an adverse reaction.

Well, to be honest with you I am looking at changing the Strattera.  After about 6 months she was doing great finally.  This only lasted briefly and then it went the opposite direction.  I think with changing hormones, serious issues at school helped to bring on depression.  Unfortunately, getting the meds changed has been just as difficult a challenge as anything else.  She had been on Concerta for over a year and that did absolutely nothing for her so this is why we changed to the Strattera.  I have no idea now what to suggest to the doctor.  My doctor is unfamiliar with all the meds and the psychiatrist we were referred to was such a horrible experience.

I really do hope your son does well on the Strattera and things keep improving for him.
