New Diagnosis/When to Start Vyvanse | ADHD Information
Hello everyone,
I have already learned so much from reading many posts. One of my 6 yo twin boys was diagnosed this week with ADHD H/I and I had heard a lot about Vyvanse so decided to start with that med. After reading here, I'm not sure if we should begin the med on a school day or wait until this weekend. I bought the Acidophilus capsules and plan on giving them from day one.
I would appreciate any feedback on deciding what day to start plus any other pearls of wisdom on beginning a med for the first time.
I also would love to hear if anyone has come up with creative ways to get young kids to take the medication. We were going to start this morning and he couldn't swallow the capsule. I didn't have any pudding or applesauce on hand so will have to try again tomorrow. Any suggestions for this?
Thanks, Sheri

HI there, hang in there first this can be a very tough road, but when you find the right med and right dose it is AWESOME
I have a almost 8 yr old DD who has ADD I always knew she did. anyways we started with Focalin xr 5 mg, we started on a SUNDAY I wanted to see how she would do, so IF you would feel more comfy I say start on the weekend just in case. my DD did pretty good with focus issues in school from about 2 weeks on we saw a difference but the side effects were bad for her on this one. she had sleeping issues more like trouble falling to sleep. she had the eating issues and has lost almost 4 lbs, her attitude was way more emotional etc. SO while the school situation was looking UP the other part of her life was not. after almost 12 weeks she started losing focus so dr said while the side effects were still in her we switched to VYVANSE 20 mg and after ONE MONTH I LOVE this med for my DD. she is DOING AWESOME in school, and her attitude is so much better, her sleeping is so much better, ONLY thing bad still is eating, so we saw a nutritionist yesterday and got TONS of advice and we are finally on the right path, she has since gained a LB back in about a month from me upping her portions when I can GET her to eat and getting more protein in her diet.
anyways just wanted to say it is all worth it in the end when you find the right one, I have heard may good things about Vyvanse and sort of wish we tried this first.
Hope this helps :)))
Savannie's Mom40620.6540625Oh as far as getting it INTO THEM with the focalin I did the pudding trick and sprinkled it IN the pudding, but it was a fight, finally she can swallow the pill NP. Try to practice with Tic tacs I have heard that can help
My 6 year old has also recently been diagnosed. He is also on Vyvanse. I break open the capsule and add his to a spoonful of jelly. I usually have no issues as long as all the powder is covered!
