[QUOTE=Jessica N]ADHD is caused by reduced dopamine/seratonine in the brain. The
website says it is a bad habit:
-Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is not a deficit, defect or
neurological disorder. Rather, it is a highly refined, short-term coping
skill that backfires in the long-run. Children adapt to unpleasant
situations the same way adults do, by building emotional defenses.
-ADHD is a skilled defense that children develop against the unpleasant
situations we put them in at home and school. Once the aversiveness of
these situations and the ADHD type defenses are extinguished, attention
improves, agitation and hyperactivity decreases, school and homework are
much easier to handle.

Thank you for clearing up what this was about, and saving me a lot of time. Especially when I read: "The
website says it is a bad habit" Its hard enough for the children and adults who have this to deal with, then to have others tell them they its just a bad habit, imagining how that must frustrate them and make them feel!
Its also not so wonderful for those living with them to hear, as many of us work hard trying to help our husband [wife when applicable], and for others, children.
Its possible the author found some Behavior Modification techniques, and there are things like play attention games, all which can help. But to say that any success means ADHD is not a real disease, and just a bad habit, is so very wrong. It just means a way has been found to manage it. Managing it is fine, if the truth is recognized. To say its gone when its not, then there are no meds, including natural, kept in the house just in case the child acts out in school or at home, someone has trouble at work due, etc. If ADHD is not respected for what it is, but passed off as a bad habit, it often will eventually spill out in places you rather it did not.
Fine if someone has found something extra to help, but to to attempt to ignore all medical sciences, especially the 'fact' that ADHD is the result of reduced dopamine/seratonine in the brain, is annoying at best. I once had a New Age friend write to me a long list of symptoms, saying ADHD is not real but just a list of symptoms. Well, if someone has all those symptoms, and if others given the same diagnosis of ADHD also have most of the same symptoms, isn't that good enough to call it ADHD? I don't see what the big deal, in that I've been told that the "label" of ADHD is disabling, and must be removed. That was what she and others said. I disagree. I find it freeing. Now that I know what the heck is going on, I can research the right information, and the most healthy treatment, and do something about it. Before I was just in ignorance, suffering.
Often I wonder if those against recognizing ADHD as a medical condition have it themselves and are in denial they have it. Not saying all do, just wondering out loud I suppose.
I agree, this person may be trying to get sales here. I'm not going to be a buyer, will tell ya that much. :)
Thanks for making it clear right away, and saving me a lot of time, of which I have less of these days.

Look, I know it's not for everyone. But there are some great things about it. First, email the doctor and let him do an quick evaluation to see whether he can help. Emailers who are turned down often complain, but I think that a free pre-screeing is very ethical. After that, you can join the club of happy parents.
Well, you can join the club of happy parents if you're willing to become a better person yourself. It takes humility and true self-confidence to acknowledge where you need help -- so you can help your child. It's not easy, but it does produce results. It's supported by as much -- if not more -- clinical research than many stimulants. All you're going to get in either case is a bunch of anecdotal evidence lumped togehter to seem statistically significant. Maybe it is just correlation, buy in our case (and in many other persons' cases) there is also causation.
It's a good place to start exploring alternatives to drugs.

Look, I know I may be wrong, But JMK is trolling for traffic/dollars on our site IMHO. Yuck
Annika,
I am happy for you and your husband. Maybe a researcher could write up a case study. Check it out.
About your "one more thing" please explain the difference you believe there is between a disease and a disorder. In general medical useage, I believe they are accepted as interchangeable.
Best wishes,
Henry
My husband has Add and he started to work on the
assumption that add is an emotional defence to unpleasant
situations.
It took him a lot of effort to apply this idea - because
add is all about to not wanting to see it that way.
But he has found that all his add symptoms are reactions
that he has unconsciously chosen to ignore/confuse/forget
the negative things in his life.
Once these unconscious reactions became conscious he
totally changed. He does none of the add behaviour
anymore - only if he is under a lot of stress it might
creep in a bit.
And one more thing: add is not a disease - it's a
learning disorder.
