The Safety of Prescribed Amphetamines | ADHD Information

Share
There are patients who are prescribed amphetamines for
treatment of ADHD and use something like Adderall daily.
I noticed that when I take Adderall XR, my heart rate
stays at around 100-120 bpm, which is up to 50 percent
higher than my resting rate, for 12 hours and counting.
Now, wouldn't this then labor the heart too much in
patients whose hearts are racing almost all of their
waking hours?

There have been incidences of people having strokes/heart
attacks/heart problems from Adderall. However, these
incidences include groups of people who mixed it with
medications they shouldn't have or who took more than
they were prescribed, but there were also incidences in
people who did exactly what their doctor told them to do.

I know that there are people out there whose lives might
really turn out in shambles if not for their ADHD
medication as well as people who use this drug for
enhancement or recreational purposes. This is an
undeniable fact, but that does not matter. Adderall's
primary effect entails an elevated heart rate in everyone
who takes it. So, how dangerous is it for the heart? What
other long-term dangers can it pose? How can Adderall be
used in a way that minimizes health risks and maximizes
potential benefits.

It would be really appreciated if you responded to this
in a holistic manner, rather than by systematically going
through each question in a non-integrative manner. This
is a serious issue and the only way we can progress with
our treatment of ADHD is through common understanding.
Thank you for your time.
