My son is 9 now and was diagnosed with ADHD/ODD when he was 3 on meds 6 months later! He is severe... Many doctors later, we found one that is a top research psych dr. at a psych hospital he suggested to us... change his meds back and forth every 2 weeks... he is on a very high dose of meds now and still not working as good as they should... he has been on EVERY med made for ADHD and they either stop working or do not work at all.... We are waiting for an appt. at a top research hospital here in the US.
So here is what he takes:
WEEKS 1 & 2
morning - 30 mg focalin xr AND 10 mg dexmeth (short acting focalin)
3 pm - 15 mg. dexmeth.. (short acting focalin)
7 pm - 1 mg risperidone AND 3 mg. Melatonin
WEEKS 3 & 4
morning - 70 mg. vyvanse AND 10 mg dextroam.. (short acting vyvanse)
3 pm - 15 mg. dextroam.. (short acting vyvanse)
7 pm - 1 mg. risperidone AND 3 mg. Melatonin
The vyvanse cycle does not work much.... but the focalin cycle does... WHEN THE MEDS ARE IN HIM.
Good Luck to all of you that are having issues getting meds to really work... Yes, my son has been in therapy, social skills class, wrap around, had TSS etc... we get him all the help we can. He is very active on soccer and hockey teams too...

Sorry, forgot to say, this dr. that came up with this idea left our area to go be in charge of another hospital in TX so we are back to our old psych dr. it is the pediatrician that suggests going out of state to see someone at the research hospital for my son.
So this old dr. just added intuive to the mix... 1 mg each morning the first week then 2 mg. each morning after that...???? so frustrated!
Drs have lots of good info, education etc. but you the parent know your child and see the effects of meds. Trust your instincts also.
Good Luck!
Whoohoo!! My son had a PERFECT day today! Not sure if it is the intuniv working already or not?? Have not seen him this calm in sooooo long! Hope this will last awhile!
