Hi my name is maria mcnulty i have a little girl who has just been diagnosed with adhd im finding it hard to come to terms with it is there any advise any one could give me.Welcome Maria!  It's so hard to understand ADHD if you don't have it.  There are so many posts on here that will not only help you understand better but not feel alone.  Also there are so many resources available out there to help also.  Just remember YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!
Read everything you can get your hands on. It really explains things and gives you tips for yourself and for the teachers. It makes it easier to deal with,  It made me see that this wasn't my fault, I thought I had done something wrong and couldn't understand why my son was so difficult.  It took my 12yr old daughter to make me see what was going on....now I know that this is a disorder and that he really has no control over this. My son is 10 and has combined adhd, this forum is great and I'm glad I found it. I wish I had found it sooner but better late than never.
Luvmykids0240647.891400463I would focus on helping her, and on her perspective. This is about helping
your daughter to succeed and to feel good about herself. I would not ask for
input from adults without adhd children, unless they have adhd -- on ANY
topic. That includes your best friends and your parents. You may need to
develop a new support system for this particular issue.
