My son is 5 but acts like he is 3. He relates better to younger children. I am terrified about what will be when he gets into kindergarten in the fall. Right now, his preschool is pretty good with support and help. I have been looking for a social skills group for him, but they all seem to be focused on autism, and that, thank God, is not his problem.
He needs help with social reciprocity and pragmatics. Ds sees a speech therapist for help with this, but I think he gets the most help from his teacher.

I am becoming the most knowledgeable person going. I guess since he's had this for 5yrs now and I didn't really understand what it was. I have read that they are about 2-4 yrs behind socially. My son gets along with the younger kids and the older kids that can tolerate his impulsiveness and his verbal diarrehea....lol the boy doesn't stop talking.....the kids his age at school have been calling him stupid and annoying and don't play with him, he goes to play with his sister's classmates which are in grade 7. We have a program at school that the resource teacher or school psychologist works on social skills. I have tutors, a psychiatrist, family doctor, pharamacist, resource teacher at school and am currently looking into an adhd coach. Can you say brain overload?? I have accepted that he has this and that it is a disability, something he has no control over, but with more reading I can put it together and it does make sense. I can and will get thru this and so will he!!
