Gladys,
I to have heard of this book from the Dr. Phil show. I haven't been able to pick up a copy, but I plan too.
Any practical information you can pass on?
If anyone out there is looking for a comprehensive look at what has been tried successfully for ADD or ADHD - this is it. The book is called "The ADD Answer" by Frank Lawlis. Dr. Lawlis gives an overview of everything from diet to magnets. He's not a great advocate of medication and gives a very even-handed look at most everything that has been found to help ADD/ADHD people. Our son was just diagnosed, and this book has been a fabulous guide.

Dr. Lawlis
Is that the name of his book?
Hello,
I have read this book and it is a very easy read and Dr. Lawlis has some interesting ideas. I was wondering about the magnets...Gladys where did you get yours? I also thought about the bioacuostical device he mentions. I also thought about using the cd's. Gladys please let us know how things go. If anyone want to check out the this device you can go to bioacuostical.com. There is also a link there that will take you to some cd's by Dr. Lawlis. If anyone has any thoughts please let me know.
I haven't really had time to apply what I've read, so I can't give much practical advise on it. We started using a magnetic pillow and pad 3 days ago. I'll post a note if that seems to have any positive effect. There is a chapter in his book called "healing sounds" and I'm going to explore that with an occupational therapist next week with my son. She has some therapeutic cds that one plays over special headphones. The therapist says that she's seen major success in adhd kids using these cd's - I'll also post it if we see any success with the cd's. Lawlis has a chapter on Nutrition in which he discusses some common deficiencies in Adhd people. There is a simple laboratory test for zinc that we're pursuing. Go to http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/showthread.php?p=86040 for an extremely well written, interesting tale by a fellow whose son suffered from a zinc deficiency (you have to read his story to believe it!). That's it, good luck!Cd's programs for ADHD and Autism people or anyone for that matter.
AIT: Auditory integration Training and TLP's Listening programs. Therapists have to be montor them and only get them. Look these up great and a little expensive.
Ait is for people with sensative hearing whom cover ears because sounds bother them. We did with my son no longer dose this and can be in a room with out doing that and screaming it hurts. We are trying to raise money for the other program. That also helps with eyes on people whom also has Visual dysfunction as well.our son had auditory/Visual problems.Told by one of his therapist should see improvements. Rshn

Hi,
Thank you, thank you for the book suggestion! My child was very recently diagnosed with ADHD by a psychologist who offered absolutely no suggestions other than medication. I know meds can be beneficial but I'm worried about the side effects. I'm very sensitive to medication of any kind and I'm worried that he might be as well. He's also only seven. At home he has little difficulty with tasks but he gets in trouble at school for how slow he is in completing work. However, he got good marks on his report card except for handwriting and written composition. I'm anxious to try alternative ways to help him focus. I'm going to order the book today!
I bought the magnetic pad and a magnetic pillow from a company called "Nikken". I just happened to have a pal who is a distributor for them - if you look on the web, there are other outfits that sell pads. I'll keep you posted on the cd's. Just to let you all know, i have just finished working for nikken, they're products suck and they sell them at RIDICULOUS markup prices... sometimes even more than 1000%!!!!! for example they're Air Power thingys, for staff.. you can buy them at £63, they'll still make a good profit on that.. keep this in mind! to the average joe that wants to buy an Air Power ... they'll be charged the outrageous price of around £900!!! also.. they charge ridiculous proces for magnetised things... remember... MAGNETS.... you can magnetise ANY Magnetisable metal!!!!!!!!! FOR FREE no less!!! so why bother going to these high priced companies when you could easily go to any.. i dno market stall.. or anywhere in fact that sells magnets.. any magnets! all you're buying is a magnetic field remember!! and go for the cheap stuff.. there is no such thing as a high quality magnet! lol!! ..... so ... in closing... nikken is poo! and it sucks! and they're products suck!
