Preferred Meds for adult ADHD | ADHD Information

There has been some recent research that shows that some patients who take certain well known prescription adhd treatments are more inclined to become compulsive gamblers. This link has been observed for some years now but this is the first time the findings have been documented.Natural alternatives that can help adult adhd are plentifull .My advice would be to seek out products that contain Dimethylethanolamine (DLPA) and/or GABA for a side effect free solution to easing your symptoms

Hope this helps

I'm new to the board and currently looking for some suggestions.

As a 37 year old ADHD patient, I was recently put on Concerta and although it worked for a while at first, it really doesn't help.  I'm going back to my doc on Monday and I would like to know what else is out there that may be more effective for me.  I'm not sure if it's the dosage or the fact that Concerta is extended release.  Perhaps some of you have some ideas?

Thank you for your help and any information you are willing to share.

hi hvc and welcome!
by now you've seen your doctor and, hopefully, you two have worked out an approach to help you find which medication works best for you.
I've never used a patch as you have--sticking to pills in stead (both the short-acting (regular release) and the longer-acting varieties.
Please do keep in touch and let us know how it goes for you....

BrainSmart, I'd really, really appreciate it if you would provide a link or two to sites that corroborate the claims you make persons taking  "prescription adhd treatments are more inclined to become compulsive gamblers."   I'm very skeptical of this claim, but good double-blind trials, including placebos, is, I believe, what's looked for in terms of test results that support sound conclusions.

Enough experts in ADHD have written about the reduction in alchohol consumption seen in ADHD patients once they begin and stick to regular medicaton regemine, seems to me that if anything, ADHD meds could also reduce the incidence of compulsive gambling....
