Amphetamine salt? | ADHD Information

I have add and social anxiety so I was given a prescription for 15 mg of Adderall xr but I was given amphetamine salt combo er which you all might know is the generic form of Adderall. I took one for the first time this morning but nothing happened. I took another a few hrs later and actually opened the capsule to see this would make it effective. I felt a "rush" and wanted to do a million things at once but it very quickly went away. I feel like my add self again and nauseous. Should I go back to my doctor to get another prescription for something else? I'd love to hear your experiences. Thank you.


hi Megz and welcome..... taking these meds is still trial and error.  No one's at fault, it's just the way it is with all our individually different responses to the medication.  Hopefully your doctor pointed out that medication, when it works, should make it easier for you to manage your ADD traits, 'cause it sure as heck doesn't make them go away!  So your quest, realistically, is to find a med that helps best to lessen ADD traits that has the least side effects (which they all seem to have, and which seem to change as you go on taking the med).

I suspect that if you went back to your doctor, she would advise you to keep trialing this medication for at least a week or two in order to really tell how well (or not) it works for you, before offering to write you a script for a different medication.  That would be my suggestion too. 

I think it's a good idea when starting out with medication to try several kinds/types of ADD meds to see which might be best suited to your brain/needs.
And it's good to be patient (yeah, right!) when trying out a new med.    gd luck, john
