Left Handed | ADHD Information

Seems all of us with ADD have a different thinking pattern than the norm.

I'm just curious to see, how many are left handed.

I am left handed, so I'm already thinking differently than the norm, then add this .... Wow, no wonder the simple things are the hardest.

Well, i'm a righty, but i'm definately right brained.  My mother is left-handed. both of her parents are left-handed, and so are both of her sisters.  All but two of my cousins, and my brother also fit into this strange left-handed world.  Mybrothers' two sons and a couple of my cousin's kids are also in this category.  Myson, who happens to be adopted, has also seemed to inherited this trait from my maternal side. Go figure!  My maternal grandfather had 12 brothers and sisters and more than half of them were left-handed.

I read that there may be a correlation between add and left-handedness.  I've also read of similar possible correlations between allergies, family history of addiction, smoking, and intuition.  I find this interesting.

Wow, I'm intrigued by the information you provided.

There is no one else in my family that is left handed, but I do smoke, and more often than not, I have a sixth sense. Weird....

wow! i can't believe this poll didn't get more of a
response. come on people, we want to know if you
are a right or left brained person. typically, your
dominant side of the brain is opposite of your
dominant hand. not always. what's the scoop?know what? i have add, i just noticed that there have
been some answers to the poll. i'd still like to read
some feedback.

Well, looks like us lefties are leading the pack (ha ha).

I've always just wondered why being in my right brain makes things more complicated - does that contribute to everything being difficult - sounds like it should make things earier - NOT!

I was born left handed but back in the 60's parents were told that if your child is left handed, keep switching the crayon to the right hand.

After my grandmother told me this as an adult, it explained alot.
I think it's really bad to do what comes natural to someone.  Kinda screws up the brain a little.

< =""> I'm all screwed up. I'm an art major (Right brain is creativity) I am right
handed(left brain), My mom is a lefty and an art teacher (right brain) and
my dad is an accountant and right handed (left brain)

I think I got screwed though.

My sister got all the good genes, she is a lefty and is very creative, but is
also a math wiz and thinks mostly like my dad. shes organized, gets
straight a's all that good stuff.

o yea, and she's a freshman in college (2 years younger) and she's my
height and is a great athlete.

sorry to throw a pitty party for myself there.
but I do love my sister though, we get along great and I couldnt be
happier to have her as a sister. She also works very hard for what she
accomplishes.

It is not a pity party...having ADD for the most part is painful and difficult. Just because yer sister is all those things, does not mean she may not have ADD herself. Many type A personalities and "hyperfocused" people also have ADD.

I am a rightie, but still get Right/Left & East /West mixed up. Anybody else have this problem?

for north south east west I have to look up down right left to remember
every time
I am right-handed, and as far as I can recall, everyone in my family is right-handed too. But my family (especially my mother's side) has a long-standing history of mental illness and substance abuse. My father was also a binge alcoholic. I'm lucky I'm not more screwed up than I am.

I have trouble with left/right too. I point with my thumb rather than say left or right when I'm giving directions. Also, when reading a map, I have to orient it to point in the direction I am going  (if heading south, then I turn the map so that south is at the top), otherwise I get utterly and hopelessly turned around.
I'm right-handed, but smoke with both hands, depending what I'm doing with the right hand, like navigating the mouse. Also, I read somewhere that south-paws are actually a majority, not a minority. From this poll, it looks close! [QUOTE=Simi]I was born left handed but back in the 60's parents were told that if your child is left handed, keep switching the crayon to the right hand.

My parents did that to me too! I was born in the 80's though. I've always wondered if that had any affect on my brain.

I remember reading somewhere that lefties have higher mortality rates because the world is designed for righties so lefties are more likely to have accidents that lead to their demise.
