Hey folks...my daughter was diagnosed at age 5 w/ADHD after a very long year and a half of rage outbursts and mom & dad not knowing what to do about it. Once diagnosed, she was put on Ritalin and you all know how long those doses last. So when Concerta came out, it was the answer we had been looking for, and it has worked very well for our daughter...now almost 13 years old. Needless to say it's been a long time since she's been on this medication.
I am looking into this diet/vitamin supplement/chiropractic care therapy as I've heard quite a bit about it in recent months.
Here is my problem:
I have since divorced my husband and our daughter lives with him. (he threatened a custody battle I couldn't afford when I had to move out of state) I see my daughter maybe 9 weeks a year if I'm lucky and on the ex's "good side" meaning I haven't made him mad for one reason or another. He continually lets our daughter eat carbohydrates in such large quantities, that it's scary. Bagels for breakfast, lunch, and Ramen noodles for dinner or pizza. VERY RARELY does she eat vegetables (only corn & potatoes) and eats very little meat or any kind of protein at all. And fish is completely out of the question, so there goes a good source of Omega 3's! She has gained so much weight that she now has stretch marks on her lower back and the tops of her thighs. She does participate in sports but the carb overloading is the problem. I have told my ex of this new 'therapy' and he refuses to put her on a better eating diet, he says the multi-vitamin he gives her is "good enough," and absolutely refuses to take her to a chiropractor even though his insurance has unlimited visits and he copays . While my daughter was here over the summer (2004) I took her to see my chiro. After only 4 adjustments, she admitted to feeling more calm during the day and said she slept better.
What I need are letters from anyone who has at least tried the diet & vitamin therapy that I can use it as documentation. I plan to take my ex to court over custody or at the very least force him to do this for her instead of keep her on the medication. If anyone would be willing to write a supporting letter and tell me their story and how it's helped their child I would appreciate it GREATLY! My email is tonyaklee71@hotmail.com I can give you my mailing address if you would like to send the letters that way as well...which may be more helpful than an email as my ex can and will try to say I wrote the emails myself. (yes, he's a true creep) LOL
Thank you!
