my dr.  was going to switch me to concerta cause their program will cover it but not cover adderall xr or regular adderall either.

i found a form for adderall xr patient assistant program and am now awaiting to see if i get approved of it or not.

in the mean time i will  continue on the adderall xr.  if i am not approved for it i will  be forced to either pay close to a hundred dollars a month to stay on the adderall xr or go to concerta.

i am  wondering what one is  more preferred and the differences you have felt. and thanks for any and all  replies.

I am 48 years old and have been on both. I was diagnosed 2 years ago, although my family including my parents always knew there was something there.
I started on AdderallXR . I was bumped up to 50 mg's. I can say that it worked, but it brought out some undesireable side effects. The worst was that I developed a type A personality. I had a chip on my shoulder and was just waiting for someone to knock it off. There was a period of awakening where everyone who had ever hurt me mentally or physically brought out anger.
I was on that for 6 months. My doctor moved from the area and I found a new doctor. He immediately shifted me to Concerta 54mg. The personality went away, but I lost some focus. We then went to 72mg(2-36's). Everything fell beautifully in place. Is it for you?  I can't say. Everyone responds a little different. Try it out and see. Start low and then go higher. You may have to go back to AdderallXR. You may have to go on to Strattera.  It's all about experimenting until you find it.
If your doctor is just giving you medication, then maybe you need to see someone else. My doctor meets with me now every 3 months. Prior to that it was monthly. I tell him how things were going and then he helps by explaining what I am feeling and we work on behavioral modification. Everyone thinks that taking meds is the cure all. Eventually it may be, but  the behavioral modification that my doctor works with me has really brought the whole thing into perspective.
The only side effect that I have picked up is when I am in slack time or working on something I hum to myself and sometimes a little louder.
It is all about the process, not just the meds.
