My son is 11. He has been ADHD since he was 4. He takes Strattera and Concerta. He has never been a sleeper even as a baby. Now it is even worse. We are having a hard time finding anything to help him sleep. Please HELP!!This information was taken from http://www.biopsychiatry.com/ You also might want to read this. http://www.sleepnet.com/rest5/messages/784.html

[modafinil was licensed by the FDA as Provigil for the treatment of narcolepsy in Dec 1998; and in September 2003, an advisory panel to the FDA endorsed its use for treating shift work sleep disorder and sleep apnea

Fortunately, a "French" drug like adrafinil can now be ordered over the Net; but it ought to be available at the local corner-store. It has the commercial disadvantage of being cheap.

        Of course, many millions of insomniacs suffer from the opposite problem. They simply want regular sleep. Supracor's new sleep-aid eszopiclone (Lunesta) can be taken on a nightly basis indefinitely. It will be the first sleeping pill not to carry an FDA warning against long-term use.

I found that mine did well with a repetitive guitar rhythm on CD. Actually from "Learning to play the guitar". It's Frere Jacques (don't know how you spell that), but it help him settle. We also did white noise and ocean waves. They worked for ushave you tryed a bath before bed to calm him down, or white noise?? they make taps that have ocean,rain, stream noices on it.Our son had similar sleep issues (even before any meds). Our pediatrician suggested a low dosage of melatonin (we used 1.5 mg) about 90 minutes beofre bedtime. For us this did the 'trick'. We no longer use it as he has truly adjusted to this sleep schedule. I know other moms with ADHD kids that have used this as well. Talk to you doctor about it and see if this could work for your son. He is probalby taking too much or taking it too late in the day. Try only giving  him the medication in the morning. I took it too late today, its 4 am, and I am still up. if I take it anytime after 12, I am sure to be up. I think I should go try to sleep now.

Difficult sleepers:Take away all refined carbs at dinner.We here eat this way and sleep better since then. Those carbs give energy and are needed only at day time.         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;

Strattera : I see that no one has given enough time to see results as we have. What effects seen on your child we should no about? 4-6 weeks are really needed to tell. Any of these meds will not totaly control systems 100%.OT therapy for ones issues would be your best bet along with behavior therapy.

Does anyone read the research section here or read books on adhd.rshnWe have a regular rutine before bed which includes a hot bath. I haven't tried the tapes yet but I will now. ThanksI tell my kids to lie down and think about nothing but their breathing - focus on breathing in and out - seems to get them to sleep we have a regular routine...brush teeth, then we all sit together in living room quietly for 1 minute (doing and saying nothing) then we each read a story.  most of the time, my kids fall asleep before i am done reading my book.  i read last.  I also have a rule, at bedtime you need to be in your bed and the only two things you can do is sleep or read.  reading seems to tire their eyes.  my son has always had a hard time sleeping, but this seems to work well for my kids.  At one time, we used clonodine to help him sleep.  the only thing was he peed the bed cause he slept so hard, and he would get up at 3 or 4 am for the day.  good luckrae-i am falling asleep right now..with your hypnoticness :)
