concerta problem | ADHD Information

My son was having the same issue, the concerta alone worked for a couple of months and then we also ended up adding focalin. he now gets a focalin 2.5 in the morning with the concerta and another focalin in the afternoon to boost the concerta. It is working extremely well for school and we do not give the focalin on the weekends so the dosage stays effective for the school days. good luck with your meds Ive been on concerta (56 mg) for about.. 10 months and its been working great. last year i failed all my classes but 2 and passed them with 70s this marking period i did amazing.. all my grades were 80 or higher (except for math cause im just naturally bad at it)  but, my medicine seems not to be working anymore or maby its just me.  I now find myself daydreaming in class.. my grades have gone down and i dont know what im doing wrong.. im doing everything ive been doing the first 10 months i was  the medicine and now it dosent seem to be helping.  so does the medicine eventually just not work even when you take it?  im very frusterated .   i went to my phycologyist and told her that ive been having trouble concentrating the first and 2nd period of the day (now its all day but then it was only periods 1 and 2) and she told me that i couild take foclan by the makers of riddelin to help the concerta kick in faster and i told her that maby im just in a slump.  im just not sure what to to.. advice would be VERY  helpfull.

I was on concerta for a few months before it seemed to lose it's affectiveness.  It worked great at first but then it stoped working in the afternoon then it stoped altogether.  I switched to regular Ritalin and that has been working great on its own.

I found this page on Focalin

thanks a lot.  I told my parents that i would like to start it and to tell my phycologist. so i will be starting it soon, just a quick question though.. does your son feel one medicine wearing off?  my psycologist told me that i probally wouldnt because there both the same drug but everyone reacts different to add meds

thanks again, ryan.
he is only 6 and hard to question him on that issue, although we notice no down-time when the focalin is wearing off. the focalin is very close chemically to the methylphenidate, although it lasts longer and therefore it is possible to take less of that and achieve the same effects as a short acting ritalin. My son is getting the same effect of a 2.5 focalin as he would 5 to 7.5mg of a short acting ritaliln.
